The Victor Type D was manufactured by The Victor Talking Machine Co. from 1903 to 1907 and was originally priced from $55 to $60. The Type D was the first Victor designed with a 12-inch turntable concurrent with the introduction of Victor's new 12-inch diameter records. The cabinet of Type D Victors manufactured from 1903 until late 1906 was similar in style, but larger than that of the Monarch Special. Made of top-grade quartersawed oak, the cabinet housed a three-spring motor. In October 1906, a new plainer cabinet was introduced for the Type D. The new cabinet offered simple, straight sides with plain corner columns, and most instruments with this later cabinet style carried the designation "V" rather than "D" on the ID plate.
