In 1903 the Type Z replaced the Royal as the lowest cost ($20.00) talking machine
in the Victor lineup. In July, 1905 a new Type Z utilizing the cabinet and motor
of the Victor I was announced at the even lower price of $17.00 The Type “Z” has
a new, more powerful single-spring motor that could play several of the new 8-inch
size records per winding on its 8-inch turntable. Original cost: $17.00-$20.00.
